It is official! Mercedes-Benz has released the first pictures and details of the S-Class Coupé. The concept was originally shown at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and since then we have seen several spy pics, some taken in South Africa.
In Mercedes’s press release, it only confirmed an S500 model using the 4 663 cm3 V8 engine delivering 335 kW and 700 N.m. However, we can be sure that the S63 and S65 will be unveiled towards the end of this year, if not earlier.
The car will also feature some new technologies and subtle upgrades and changes to the interior compared with its sedan sibling. Fortunately, the exterior has some design elements of the S-Class sedan, but it also have an identity of its own.
As is the case with the sedan, there is a long list of safety and luxury features. One obscure element, though, is the option of “the expressive headlamps, each featuring 47 Swarovski crystals”. The optional Magic Body Control suspension, which now incorporates a curve tilting function, will assist the car in taking corners with the necessary enthusiasm.
No performance figures have been made available, but expect a zero to 100 km/h acceleration time of less than 4,8 seconds and a top speed limited to 250 km/h.
