Following the end of the Porsche 918’s production run, McLaren has now confirmed that the final P1 has also rolled off the production line.
The result is that all 375 units have found homes during the two-and-half years of production. According to McLaren, each car took an average of 17 days to built.
Interestingly, McLaren mentioned all the car’s specifications in this release, even putting some focus on the car’s ‘Ring time: “… and to achieve a sub-seven minute lap, an average speed in excess of 178km/h is required”. Sadly it seems the company will never reveal the time in detail.
Needless to day, the P1 is one of the ultimate hypercars ever built. As the track-only P1 GTR’s production is also coming to an end in the next few weeks, it does leave a space for McLaren to start focussing on the P1’s successor, although it is unlikely that even a concept will be unveiled in the near future.
Commenting on the next stages of the top model tier within the McLaren range, Mike Flewitt concludes: “We are in the final stages of production for the McLaren P1 GTR, with the last car due to complete build in the coming weeks. The McLaren P1 has already established itself as an icon and any car that is to continue the lineage of the Ultimate Series will need to be a worthy successor – a significant step change in technology or performance is required to ensure this is the case. The future is undecided at this stage, which is an exciting proposition”.
