BMW turns 100 years old today and to celebrate that, it has decided to provide a showcase of what to expect from the brand as it enters its second century with this, the Vision Next 100 of which the focus is drawn towards drivability and ecological preservation. Autonomous driving will obviously be implemented.
The exterior design of the Next 100 matches that of its Vision brand quite strongly. With a length of 4 900 mm and a height of 1 370 mm this will be classified as a sedan despite making use of a crazy reverse butterfly door system. It also achieves a Cd of 0,18 thanks to its extremely streamlined body.
The Next 100 has two driving modes; boost and ease. Boost is for those who wish to take control of the driving experience and as this is done the car will learn the attributes and driving habits of the one behind the seat in order to provide an increasing amount of assistance over time. Ease mode shifts the car into its autonomous setting in which case the driver can occupy his or herself with something else.
Taking the gesture control seen in the new 7 Series, BMW has advanced this innovation for the Next 100. The instrument panel has been fitted with 800 moving triangles to track the movements of everyone in the cabin for constant readings, interactions and communication. This forms part of the Companion feature which provides the Next 100 with an artificial personality.
The Next 100 will also be built up entirely of recycled or renewable materials with the intention to draw away from wood and leather.
