The updated 2017 Range Rover line-up has only just been revealed, headlined by the 405 kW SVAutobiography Dynamic. But now the brand has detailed the refreshed Range Rover Sport.
And the big news is the addition of a 2,0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium powertrain at the very base of the range. Yes, if the Rangie Sport has turned to a four-banger, then downsizing is well and truly upon us.
This four-pot engine, of course, is already available on both the Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque models. But the refreshed Range Rover Sport will be the first full-sized Land Rover SUV to feature a four-cylinder diesel engine.
Thanks to sequential turbo technology, the automaker claims the mill boasts outputs of 177 kW and 500 N.m, which translate into an estimated zero to 100 km/h time of a little more than 8,0 seconds. And the claimed combined fuel consumption? Well, Land Rover lists a figure of 6,2 L/100 km…
Interestingly, the local press material on the 2017 Range Rover Sport line-up (which says the updated range will arrive in South Africa early next year) makes no mention of this new 2,0-litre mill, which suggests the engine won’t be available here.
Other engine options in the renewed range will include a 3,0-litre six-pot diesel, 3,0-litre supercharged V6, a 4,4-litre diesel V8 and, of course, the flagship 5,0-litre supercharged V8.
Further updates include an upgraded infotainment system, new semi-autonomous driving aids and a greater scope for personalisation.
