When the extreme new McLaren Senna was first revealed, there were plenty of opinions regarding its design, even though it’s a product that is clearly built under the “form follows function” philosophy. Shortly after its unveiling, McLaren announced that the Senna would soon be sent into the racing sphere. And here’s your first look: the McLaren Senna GTR Concept.
Even more extreme on the eyes thanks to its carbon-fibre front spoiler, side skirts, diffuser and rear wing, the Senna GTR Concept also gains yet more downforce. What’s interesting, however, is that all of these parts are simply clipped on, which will make them easy to replace.
Handling is also ostensibly improved thanks to wider front and rear tracks as well as Pirelli racing tyres and a revised double-wishbone suspension setup.
The Senna GTR’s twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 gains a boost to 607 kW, too (for the record, that’s some 19 kW more than the road-going model). This, together with a racing-style transmission and a decreased overall mass, means that the Senna GTR is destined to post the McLaren’s quickest laptimes outside of Formula One cars.
Just 75 examples of the McLaren Senna GTR will be hand-built in Woking, with deliveries kicking off in 2019.
