Back in December 2017, the new Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 was officially revealed. Now the Wolfsburg-based brand has unveiled the “final livery” for its 200 kW customer rally car.
The automaker describes the livery as a “reinterpretation of the spectacular optics” that debuted on the Golf GTI TCR touring car.
“We purposely used many of the design elements from the production vehicles of the GTI family for the Polo GTI R5,” said Nico Mühr, exterior design at Volkswagen.
“In addition to the typical colours of red, white, black and the distinctive line on the front grille, it is the GTI icons with their honeycomb structure in particular that give the rally Polo its distinctive look. Ultimately, the Polo GTI R5, despite its extreme rally look, remains clearly identifiable as – no doubt the fastest – member of the Polo family.”
The all-wheel-drive Polo GTI R5 employs a turbocharged 1,6-litre petrol engine (worth 200 kW/400 N.m), which allows a claimed zero to 100 km/h time of 4,1 seconds.
In November, the first customer cars will be delivered, with an eye to competing in various international and national rally championships.
