Mercedes-AMG claims its new GT63 S 4Matic+ is the “fastest fully fledged four-seater production car” to blast round the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany.
Publishing a video to YouTube showing the 7:25,41 run, Mercedes-Benz’s Affalterbach-based performance arm appeared to be particularly careful with its words, choosing to describe the so-called GT 4-Door Coupé as a “four-seater” rather than a sedan (despite it bearing four doors).
Of course, back in November 2017, Jaguar’s XE SV Project 8 set the record for four-door sedans round the ‘Ring with a lap time of 7:21,23 (grabbing the title from the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Verde). Thing is, the British brand’s “production-intent prototype” ditched its rear seats thanks to the fitment of a roll cage (with this “Track Option” transforming it into a two-seater).
For the record, the GT63 S 4Matic+ is powered by a 470 kW/900 N.m twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 engine allowing a top speed of 315 km/h and a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 3,2 seconds.
The firm also offers two 3,0-litre inline-six models (both boasting Mercedes-Benz’s “EQ Boost” starter-alternator system), with the GT53 churning out 320 kW and 520 N.m and the “entry-level” GT43 detuned to deliver 270 kW and 500 N.m.
