Ford’s president of global markets has confirmed the Blue Oval brand will offer both “battery electric” and “hybrid” versions of its popular F-Series bakkie range.
Speaking to the Detroit Free Press, Jim Farley revealed the automaker had plans to electrify its highly popular F-Series line-up, a move he described as “future-proofing” the “global juggernaut”.
“We’re going to be electrifying the F-Series – battery electric and hybrid,” Farley said, according to the publication.
Farley went on to point out just how important the bakkie and SUV segments were to the brand as it went about repositioning itself, after in 2018 announcing it would stop selling all conventional passenger vehicles, bar the Mustang, in North America.
“Ninety percent of our capital now is allocated toward trucks and utilities.
“We have the F-Series, the world’s and America’s best-selling truck. More than a million units were sold last year [2018].
“F-Series’ core strength at the end of the day is: there’s a truck for every customer and we know those customers really, really well. From the F-150 all the way to the F-750. They all matter to us.
“The F-Series is second to none. When you think about Ford, we have a dominant truck franchise globally,” Farley said.
