The driver of a sixth-generation Volkswagen Golf has been arrested after being clocked speeding at 236 km/h on the N2 in KwaZulu-Natal.

The 34-year-old speedster was nabbed on the highway near Mandeni and promptly taken to the Gingindlovu police station.

According to Arrive Alive, the motorist is facing charges of speeding, drinking and driving (he was allegedly four times over the blood alcohol limit) and failing to stop. The Post reports that the Pinetown man was released on R2 000 bail, with his case adjourned to a later date.

“Early this year, we issued a clear directive to our law enforcement officers to clamp down on speeding, as well as drinking and driving. So far, I am pleased that our operations are yielding positive results,” Mxolisi Kaunda, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for transport, community safety and liaison, said, according to the report.

“Anyone who breaks the law in this province will spend time in jail. Therefore, let us all abide by the rules of the road so that we can save lives,” Kaunda added.
