Audi South Africa has announced local pricing for the S8 performance sedan, which is due to hit the market at the start of April 2021.
Revealed back in mid-2019, the S8 is powered by a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 petrol engine (with mild-hybrid technology and a cylinder-on-demand system) delivering 420 kW and 800 N.m to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes a claimed 3,8 seconds, while top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
So, how much will the S8 set you back here in South Africa? Well, Audi Sport’s version of the flagship sedan will be priced from R2 484 000.
Interestingly, Audi SA has no plans to offer the standard A8 locally, telling CARmag.co.za back in July 2020 the range would be “rationalised to offer the best-suited model to our market, based on dynamics around customer demand and D-sedan segment performance”. That model, of course, is the S8.
As a reminder, the Ingolstadt-based firm has fitted its flagship S8 model with automatically actuated flaps in the exhaust system and an active noise cancellation set-up integrated into the sound system. The S8 saloon furthermore boasts “predictive” active suspension, all-wheel steering and a rear sport differential.
The drive select system, meanwhile, offers five operating modes, including a new “Comfort +” profile that tilts the body into bends (by as much as three degrees).
Inside, you’ll find sport seats (complete with pneumatically adjustable side bolsters and three-stage heating), Audi’s signature virtual cockpit, a raft of driver assistance systems and the firm’s latest dual-touchscreen infotainment system.
