New Renault Kiger concept previews upcoming (SA-bound?) baby crossover!

By: CAR magazine

Renault has revealed its new Kiger show car in India, effectively previewing the production version of an upcoming baby crossover.

The concept, which the French firm describes as being “very close” to the production model, features 210 mm of ground clearance and likely measures less than four metres long. At this stage, technical details are thin on the ground, though it seems fairly likely the newcomer will be fairly closely related to the new Nissan Magnite.

The Kiger show car’s front end features LED spotlamps similar to those employed by the Kwid. It also rides on 19-inch alloys, which seem likely to be ditched for the production model (as does that fancy tailpipe).

The series version of the Kiger, which Renault says will be “designed and developed for India”, will also be exported to markets outside of that country. The full reveal will reportedly take place early in 2021. Considering the local success of the Kwid and Triber, it seems very likely we’ll see the Kiger in South Africa at some point.

“The creative association of French and Indian designers was the best way to meet the needs and expectations of a clientele increasingly fond of style, dynamism and novelty,” said Laurens van den Acker, executive vice-president of corporate design at Groupe Renault.

“As with Triber, we are once again demonstrating our ability to innovate, by offering a new model with a dual personality, both urban and outdoor. Kiger show car is very close to the future production model,” he added.
