Following the release of the X3 Mzansi Edition in May, BMW has decided to give some local flavour to its most popular sedan. Like its SUV cousin, the BMW 3 Series Mzansi Edition receives a sporty exterior design package as well as some unique cabin garnishes.
Priced at R831 524 (318i), R863 692 (320i) and R908 126 (320d), the 3 Series Mzansi Edition models command a premium of around R83 000 over the equivalent M Sport models.
On the outside, the special edition is treated to a M Sport package, with high-gloss Shadow Line detailing for the grille, which also features LED backlighting that illuminates when the vehicle is locked and unlocked. Until now this ‘glow grille’ has only been available in the X6. The front splitter, with carbon fibre inserts, also gets high-gloss black treatment, as do the side sills and rear diffuser. M carbon mirror caps, red brake callipers, carbon fibre rear spoiler, black chrome tail pipes and BMW Individual lights, in Shadow Line, round off the external enhancements.
The 3 Series Mzansi Edition rolls on 19-inch M light alloy wheels and customers can choose from five colour options: Mineral Grey Metallic, Portimao Blue, Mineral White Metallic, Alpine White and Black Sapphire Metallic.
Cabin decor comes in the form of M seatbelts and a seat upholstery combo of Alcantara and Sensatec, with contrast stitching. Standard features include ambient lighting, a glass sunroof and BMW Live Cockpit Professional.
The 3 Series Mzansi Edition is available in three model flavours: 318i, 320i and 320d, and there are no engine mods to speak of. The former two are powered by a 2-litre turbopetrol motor, producing 115 kW and 250 N.m in the 318i and 135 kW / 300 N.m in the 320i, while the 2-litre diesel option is good for 140 kW and 400 N.m.
