The Volvo XC60 B5 has been introduced by Volvo Car South Africa as a more affordable version of their best-selling vehicle, the XC60.
The new model is available as a front wheel drive (FWD) model only and as with its five stablemates within the XC60 range, features a mild-hybrid powertrain which includes a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) which recuperates braking energy in order to charge the vehicle’s 48-volt battery. This energy is then used by an integrated starter generator to support the 183 kW/350 N.m 2,0-litre turbocharged engine, returning an impressive combined fuel consumption figure of 6,9 L/100km.
Available from the 1st of February, the XC60 B5 slots in below the XC60 B5 Momentum AWD at a price of R750 000 (including VAT). It features an impressive array of standard items which includes 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, parking assist (front and rear), a reversing camera and inductive smartphone charging. Should you wish to have a bit of cow on the seats, however, you’ll have to tick that option box.
Additionally, Volvo’s latest Android-powered infotainment system is fitted as standard, complete with built-in Google apps and services and the ability to receive over-the-air updates to both the vehicle software and the operating system.
“The new B5 FWD derivative will further cement the XC60’s long-held status as the brand’s top-selling vehicle in the country and the leader in its class,” said Greg Maruszewski, Managing Director at Volvo Car South Africa.
Amongst the many accolades that have been awarded to the current-generation Volvo XC60, such as World Car of the Year in 2018, Volvo’s best-selling vehicle was also announced as the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick Plus in 2020, one to sit nicely in Volvo’s awards cabinet right next to the XC60’s five-star Euro NCAP rating.
