We’ve seen more spy shots of the 2023 BMW M2 pop up onto our feeds than any other M car of late shrouded in the visually obtrusive camouflage. BMW M posted a few teaser images on Instagram, which didn’t give us the M2 without its camp uniform, but we were able to get a closer look at the side profile of the car, as well as the rear haunches.

For the longest time, we’ve been coming across photos showcasing the new quad exhaust centred at the rear of the upcoming M2, the M240i-esque front and rear facia, and so on. As long as BMW M doesn’t throw another curveball, M fans should make it to the fabled unveiling without ripping out every single strand of hair on their heads.
The car showcased on Instagram displayed a model outfitted with a set of multi-spoke wheels with the famed Hofmeister kink nearly in-line with the centre of the wheel. Aside from that is the rear spoiler that may or may not be an extra option for the Competition trim. On the interior, we’ve seen sneaky shots showcasing a large dual-screen display which suggests iDrive 8. Other than that, not much else seems that different to the M240i’s interior, although a good guess would be that a smattering of M-badges, as well as some M-specific seats will likely make an appearance.
From the side, you can make out the long front end that will allegedly house the adopted powertrain straight from the M4. Rumors suggest that the S58 motor in the upcoming M2 will produce 335 kW, which means that it is less powerful than the G82 by twenty-something kilowatts but will still be way more potent than its cousin, the M240i. The M2 will be rear-wheel drive however. The new M2 appears to have multiple exhaust layouts, which could be a result of different trim or spec models. Only time will tell what lurks beneath the camouflage.
BMW has said that they will be unveiling a new M car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but the jury is still out on whether the new M car will be the M2, M3 Touring or a mystery M car…
