Social media is a powerful tool if leveraged correctly and Toyota’s USA based instagram account has been utilising the platform to sporadically present their followers and the automotive world alike with snippets of the soon to debut and anticipated Toyota GR Corolla.
The team initially posed an unassuming Corolla in the well lit foreground while a camouflage GR derivative was lurking in the shadows to the rear. It caused quite the stir and became speculation for what the Japanese automaker was soon to provide the world with after the resounding success of the GR Yaris.
A story posted by Toyota USA once again has the Golf R rivalling model at the centre of attention as a story from the account shows a vague and blurry shot of the hatchbacks side profile. The blacked out windowline, glimpse of the rear diffuser and roof mounted antenna are the only visible aspects of the unreleased model and leave much to the imagination.
Other spy shots provide a better understanding of how the new performance model will look. We still have no information as to when the anticipated Toyota GR Corolla will debut but Toyota has maintained that it will employ the G16E-GTS 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a 200 kW output delivered through the GR Four all-wheel-drive system.
It will be the first proper hot hatch from Toyota in decades and is likely to give the Volkswagen Golf R a run for its money. Speculation is that it will be officially debuted later this year with full details on pricing and specs to be revealed at the same time but it will be tough to follow in the footsteps of the GR Yaris.
