AC Cars has whipped the wraps off the AC Cobra Series 4-electric, the first AC Cobra Series-electric pre-production model which, the UK-based company says, is “ready for the road”. According to AC Cars, with the introduction of electrification, it has updated the AC Cobra for the new age.
Based on the AC Cobra MK IV, the Series 4 boasts the bigger of the two Cobra body styles. According to AC Cars, the emissions-free AC Cobra “will feature one of the strongest specification and performance combinations” of any model in the UK marque’s heritage.
Two versions of the AC Cobra Series 4-electric will be on offer, a 230 kW and 460 kW variant. The former, AC Cars says, tips the scales at “just” 1 190 kg and has a zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 4,9 seconds. Electric range, meanwhile, is an “estimated” 306 kg. The more powerful, 460 kW model weighs 50 kg more and boasts a zero to 100 km/h time of 3,8 seconds. The 460 kW model’s battery pack allows for an “estimated” electric range of 258 km.
According to AC Cars, thanks to the elimination of excess weight, the AC Cobra Series 4-electric guarantees “exceptional on-the-road performance and a memorable driving experiences”. “Eliminating excess weight brings with it positive benefits for the car’s owner. Lower overall weight reduces energy consumption, allowing the batteries to deliver a longer range and the ability to drive the car to AC’s traditional high standards for speed and acceleration,” AC Cars says.
So, how much will the pair of AC Cobras for the new age set you back? The 230 kW version is priced at £148 000 which, at the current exchange rate, translates to R2 856 689. The 460 kW AC Cobra Series 4-electric, meanwhile, has an asking price of £168 000 (R3 242 211).
