Unbridled performance in an environment where every second counts result in the greatest spectacles within the world of motorsports. Few things compare to the extreme and visceral nature of a fully race-prepped Lamborghini in full attack mode. The rumbling and screaming of the Italian bull’s ten-cylinder power plant tuned for heart-rate-elevating performance mated to the gorgeous body of a Huracan STO are one of the few unrivaled joys not yet present in the world of electric vehicles.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse unveiled their newest rack toy a few months ago and it is a direct descendant and evolution of the much loved Lamborghini Huracan STO. The firm’s new GT3 car will be debuting at the 2023 Daytona 24 Hours with a non-turbocharged 447kW ten-cylinder pacemaker.
Based on the tried and tested STO and GT3 EVO platforms, the EVO2 has presented a the step up for the firm’s racing division. Squadra Corse’s latest addition to its arsenal is a standout iteration of the Huracan stable DNA. Powering this 1230kg rocket is a naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10 producing an ample 447 kW to the rear wheels. All that power is fed through a 6-speed gearbox operated by a hydraulically controlled paddle shift system. A feature directly adopted from the base STO is the hexagonal air intake that flows directly into the engine. This addition has aided in improving the flow of air to the engine but has also increased the throttle repose of the car. Lamborghini has introduced electronically actuated throttle bodies coupled with titanium valves to improve the efficacy of the V10 too.
The body is comprised of carbon fibre which is the main reason for the EVO2’s utterly impressive dry weight. Compared to the STO, the EVO2 is slightly longer and has a wider wheelbase. Surprisingly, the EVO2 is narrower than the STO when including the side mirrors in your measurements. As a result of the hexagonal roof intake, the side vents found on the previous GT3 have been abandoned.
A new front splitter, differ and underbody have been added that offer exception aerodynamic load management. The front and rear haunches of the car appear more pronounced that than road-going STO and are designed to allow for quick changes and replacements. On the rear of the car is a new manually adjustable rear wing.
Automobili Lamborghini chairman and CEO, Stephan Winkelmann announced that since the introduction of the Huracan GT3 platform in 2015, over 450 units were sold, and with the commissioning of the new EVO2, Lamborghini expects to surpass the 500 unit mark. The firm stated that customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2022. Previous generation EVO owners can upgrade to the new EVO2 platform via an “evolution kit”.
