Unsurprisingly, change is not always accepted with open arms. The outcry for smaller kidney grilles has been heard and BMW has responded.

BMW Tweeted a teaser post of a new, facelift BMW 3 Series with slimmer kidney grilles. In the 90s, we saw grilles roughly the same size as headlights, then they kept growing like moss on a tree.
If the grilles kept going at this rate, it’s likely that by 2050 we might see the entire front end consist of one monstrous grille… By the way, if you’ve got time, check out the BMW ZBF 7er concept car built in 1996, you’ll be in for a treat.
Not much was revealed other than a bit of the grille and the headlights so there’s not much to go off of other than the prospect of a new face that may harken back to the grille proportions we know and love. Spy shots over the last few months have previewed what might be the front facia architecture of the new 3 series. The Chinese market received the BMW i3 at the tail end of March. The i3 appears to have a similar front facia compared to what little we were able to see in the teaser post.
The interior will likely feature a larger digital cluster for the new iDrive 8 system, along with a few tech goodies. While it won’t be a gut-wrenching performance-orientated, track-ready weapon, the new 3 Series will feature the typical BMW quality delivered in an easy-on-the-eyes package.
The caption says “Coming soon. The new 3 series” There’s no concrete date or timeline, but the M4 CSL debuts in a few days, and the M3 Touring is set or its unveiling sometime in June, so coming soon could be within the next few weeks or a month or so. Fingers crossed.
