It’s no secret Hyundai is working on a proper ladder-frame bakkie (not to be confused with the upcoming unibody Santa Cruz lifestyle double-cab model). But what if the Korean firm decided to build an SUV on the same underpinnings?
Well, Enoch Gabriel Gonzales, a designer from the Philippines, has released interesting renders of exactly that, handing the imagined body-on-frame SUV the “Terracan” badge (previously used between 2001 and 2007).
Back in April 2020, Gonzales brought us renders of a Hyundai-badged double-cab bakkie conceived to battle the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. And this latest batch of pictures imagines a rival for the likes of the (Hilux-based) Fortuner and (Ranger-based) Everest.
Gonzales has even outfitted the SUV will all sorts of off-road goodies, from chunky tyres and a snorkel to an LED-equipped roof rack and red-painted tow hooks.
Earlier in 2020, Hyundai Australia’s chief operating officer said the rumoured ladder-frame bakkie range was a “sensitive” topic for the Korean firm’s head office.
