The studious folks over at Jato Dynamics, the London-based global supplier of automotive business intelligence, have pored over all the sales statistics for the first four months of 2018 to list the 50 best-selling vehicles in the world for the year so far.
Jato, which draws its data from 53 markets accounting for around 90% of the global total, says worldwide vehicle sales grew by 3,4% between January and April 2018 to 28,8 million units.
At the top of the list, as has been the case for some time now, you’ll find Ford’s F-Series, which continues to be the world’s best-selling vehicle with 336 599 units sold in the first four months of the year. The Toyota Corolla sedan (309 166) isn’t far behind in second, while the Volkswagen Golf grabbed third with 291 648 units registered.
The Honda Civic (262 138) took fourth, just ahead of the Nissan X-Trail (260 301) in fifth, with the Toyota RAV4 (249 590) and Volkswagen Tiguan (244 200) closing in on the X-Trail’s best-selling SUV crown.
The Volkswagen Passat (243 436) entered the top ten with growth of nearly 12 percent, while Honda’s HR-V (220 918) and CR-V (210 839) took ninth and tenth, respectively.
Outside of the top 10, Jato Dynamics reports “good progress” for the likes of the Nissan Qashqai (11th), Mazda CX-5 (24th), Jeep Compass (32nd) and Mercedes-Benz GLC (38th). The Volkswagen Polo, meanwhile, grabbed 14th place, the Hyundai Tucson 21st and the Toyota Hilux 44th.
