The Territory had only just joined the long-term fleet when it was called upon to do service on a content creation quest up the Garden route and impressed photographer Peet Mocke with its eagerness to overtake and comfortable driver’s chair. Unfortunately, he was hit with strong headwinds on the way back to Cape Town and though that didn’t affect the Ford’s composure it did negatively impact average fuel consumption.

Immediately after its return, I hopped in to fetch a team from one of CAR’s sister publications from the Old Mac Daddy luxury campsite in Elgin and was impressed with the suspension’s ability to soak up the bumps on gravel roads, as well as the ample luggage- and rear legroom.

It’s not all been plain sailing, though. The Ford infotainment system has lapses in playing music, with breaks in the playback or switching between passenger- and driver’s-side speakers intermittently. If this persists, a trip to the dealership may be in order.
