Time spent: Two of three months
Distance covered: 1 967 km
Average fuel consumption: 7.5 L/100 km
We like: Sufficient ground clearance, supple suspension setup, standard equipment
We don’t like: Engine noise under hard acceleration
Back in the Mother City, the Elevate continues to prove itself a commendable daily driver. Although the Honda impressed on a recent trip to Calvinia, its engine-transmission combo feels better suited to ’round-town commutes. In this environment, where spirited acceleration is seldom required, the seven-step CVT swaps “gears” in a seamless manner, easily finding the necessary step to ensure engine revs are kept in check. As a result, the Elevate’s fuel economy has improved, with the 7.5 L/100 km consumption figure revealing a 0.6 L/100 km improvement over last month, and is only 0.2 L/100 km more than our fuel index claim.

The Elevate’s suspension setup must once again be commended. With maintenance having commenced on several roads surrounding my apartment building, the Honda’s 199 mm ground clearance, which also proved sufficient for travelling on well-maintained gravel, was again welcomed when having to traverse the spots of pockmarked tarmac that’s yet to be smoothed out. So far, the Elevate is a reminder of Honda’s of old.
