Since its introduction in the 2012, the Audi Q3 has sold more than 5 000 units locally. In order for Audi to keep up with its own success, it models need to be refreshed and of course replaced, but its no wonder that the Q3’s first update isn’t a major one but more in keeping with its successful formula.
The Audi Q3 is the first model to feature the new Q-inspired design cues which will be rolled out to future Q-models. Meaning, it features a more imposing 3D design front grille, revised bumpers and headlights. The rear sports new bumpers and taillight designs. If you want, you can add full LED headlights at an extra cost.
The Audi Q3 has always been a favourite of mine. It somehow ticks all the boxes for me. It’s spacious, refined, good looking and practical in a ‘non-boring kind of way’. For a reason I can’t quite place my finger on, it has the edge over some of its competitors, such as the Jeep Renegade and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
I drove the Audi Q3 1,4T FSI S tronic which produces 110 kW of power and 250 N.m or torque. It is sufficiently powerful and doesn’t have an issue overtaking other cars (this is always something I test in a car) and the dual-clutch transmission is smooth and effortless. This model will cost you R419 500. It’s not cheap, but you are paying for a premium compact SUV after all.
You can also opt for the 1,4T FSI manual which comes in at R402 500. Otherwise there is the 2,0T FSI 132 kW quattro S tronic (R499 000), the 2,0 TDI 135 kW quattro S tronic (R515 000) or my favourite, the RSQ3 2,5 FSI 250 kW quattro S tronic…but you will need to cough up R769 500 for this bad boy which arrives this month.
You won’t be left wanting much more on the 1,4 FSI manual/S tronic when it comes to standard features which include a multi-function steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity with audio streaming, voice control, pop-up LCD colour screen, Audi’s music interface, 16-inch alloys, cruise control and air conditioning.
Overall, the Audi Q3 is a beautiful car. It feels solid on the road and as I mentioned, it’s refined. It’s comfortable and if you are looking for a compact SUV that falls in to the premium market, you won’t go wrong with a Q3.
