The new C-Class Coupé: Seduction of the heart and mind
The new C-Class Coupé is said to be the ‘sportiest C-Class yet’ according to Mercedes-Benz. And it’s no wonder that it’s quickly developing such a great reputation when you consider its new design.
Featuring a diamond radiator grille and a long bonnet, its front section certainly implies just how serious Mercedes is about introducing its fans to the new standards set by the C-Class Coupé.
If the outside of the Coupé doesn’t grab you then open its frameless doors and step inside! Mercedes boasts the new Coupé’s interior to be a statement of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of “sensual purity and combines emotion with intelligence”.
Merc claim the front seats to be comfortable and supportive leaving you with no need to push your shoulders forward to enhance your driving experience.
“The unique position of the new C-Class Coupé is emphasised by the special upholstery colour combinations of saddle brown and black, porcelain and – in the Edition 1 – but brown and black with turquoise topstitching.”
With an 80 millimeter longer wheelbase, the C-Class Coupé is 95 millimeters longer and 40 millimeters wider than its predecessor. It’s more than just a three-door version of the saloon. Even though it’s longer and wider its boot capacity is actually 95 litres smaller than the older model, creating more room for the driver and passengers.
Engine and power
Four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with ECO start/stop functions, consuming up to 20 percent less fuel than its predecessors are responsible for the Coupé’s power and efficiency.
In terms of power the new Coupé offers a 6-speed transmission, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transition (standard on the C 300) , or the new 9-speed 9G-TRONIC which is optional on the C 220d only.
With two petrol engines the output spectrum ranges from the two-litre C200 (135 kW) and the C300 model and while there’s a displacement of two litres, a 180 kW punch of power and 370 N.m of torque can be expected from its output.
AMG features
If you’re opting for the AMG line, which is available as an alternative, exterior features differ slightly. Special bumpers and sills featuring AMG body styling and 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels further underline the dynamism of the Coupé.

- Sporty exclusive touches like the upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre in black with contrasting top-stitching
- A multi-functional sports steering wheel with flat bottom
- AMG sports pedals.
- Optional Interior Chrome package featuring numerous headlights enveloped in silver chrome, including instrument cluster, the air vents and door openers
Safety
3-point seat belts with pyrotechnical belt tensioning and belt-force limitation for the driver, front passenger and rear passengers.
In the front, adaptive airbags for the driver and passenger, additionally with a kneebag on the driver’s side. Thorax/pelvisbags for driver and passenger plus front and rear windowbags as standard for side protection systems.
Pricing
The C-Class Coupé comes standard with a class-leading six year/100 000 km PremiumDrive maintenance plan without customer contribution. The C 220 d is exempt from CO² emission tax due to its low footprint of 113 g/km.
