Helping celebrate Cape Town’s Killarney race circuit’s 5oth anniversary, this weekend’s action is something not to be missed, especially on Sunday when a section of the interior parking will be filled with classic road cars.

In the morning, a concours d’elegance will take place on the lawn in front of the WPMC clubhouse.
On the track there will be events for historic single-seaters, touring cars and saloon,, international sports prototypes, TransAm cars, world sports and GT cars, SA Fine Cars and historic motorcycles. On Saturday there is a 1-hour endurance race and both days feature a Tourist Trophy event. Lunch breaks on both days will be filled with car and motorcycle parades.

Overseas cars to watch include three McLarens; Michiel Campagne’s McLaren M8F-Chevrolet, Chris Wilson’s M1B and Donald Duncan’s M1C. Harm van Putten’s unusual IMSA Alfa 75 Turbo will doubtless delight the alfisti in the pre-1977 Classic Touring Car races. Local entrants include a pair of Ford Capri Peranas driven by Peter Gough and Sean McKay plus a seriously quick Datsun in the hands of Martin Richards.

Franz Pretorius will be present in his magnificent ex-All Japan Sports Prototype Championship-winning Porsche 956. Last but not least, Sarel van der Merwe and his Ford Galaxie will have to be at their best to fend off some other impressive big-banger American superloons… A bonus event for modern GT cars sees the largest field of Porsche GT3s ever assembled in South Africa.

The daily admission charge is R80 for adults and R20 for scholars under 16. There is no charge for kiddies under 12. A special adult weekend pass is available for R120.
