Another week, another Bring a Trailer auction – this week’s gem is a 1988 BMW E30 M3 with just 81 000 miles (130 000 km) shown from new.
Finished in Lachssilber Metallic over black leather, this touring car legend is powered by BMW’s S14 2,3-litre inline four and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, as well as a limited-slip differential.
In addition, this example has been fitted with 17-inch three-piece BBS wheels, Ground Control coilovers, adjustable Koni yellow shocks, a Ground Control camber kit, a front strut tower brace, carbon-fibre exterior treatments, a sunroof, air conditioning, and a Sony CD player. This pristine example has also recently received a full fluid change, new tires, spark plugs, and a new fuel filter.
in 2007, this M3 received a full glass-out respray. Visually, it also features an integrated front lip, a rear spoiler, and wider fenders in comparison to standard E30 models, as well as carbon fibre kidney grilles. Included in the listing are photos which document the repaint.
The clean interior is in impeccable stock condition with the dashboard presenting in good condition, too. The leather-wrapped M-Tech I steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and the six-digit odometer shows approximately 81 000 miles (130 000 km). The previous owner has done less than 250 km in the vehicle.
BMW’s iconic and characterful 2,3-litre S14 inline-four cylinder motor was rated at 143 kW horsepower and 230 Nm of torque when new, enough to provide an engaging and exciting experience to anyone lucky enough to run all the way up to the fizzy four’s redline.
Impressively, the vehicle’s Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California and Arizona from its first entry in 1991 onward. The current bid at the time of writing sits at $70 000 (R1 115 000) with just 2 days left on the online auction.
