When the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, powered by a 6,2-litre V8 motor producing 336 kW and 600 N.m arrived in South Africa just in time for CAR’s June 2008 issue, we felt compelled to set up a comparative test against the much-vaunted Audi RS4 quattro, producing 309 kW and 420 N.m, and the BMW M3, with 309 kW and 400 N.m. Why is this test significant, now that BMW has launched the F30-generation M3 and F32-generation M4 in Detroit? Because we don’t need to refer to four-door or sedan versions of the M3, the advent of M4 allows us to simply call the car… M3.
