A Beijing court has ordered the Jiangling Motor Corporation to halt manufacturing and sales of its Range Rover Evoque clone, with Jaguar Land Rover triumphing in the long-running legal case against the Chinese automaker.

According to Autocar, the Beijing Chaoyang District Court has determined Jiangling Motor Corporation’s Landwind X7 features five unique elements lifted directly from the Evoque.

The court ordered that manufacturing, sales and marketing of the Landwind X7 stop immediately, adding Jaguar Land Rover must be paid compensation.

The British automotive group said its win was a “first in the global car industry”.

“We welcome this decision of the Beijing Court, which further strengthens our confidence in investing in China and in the fairness of intellectual property adjudication in the Chinese courts,” Keith Benjamin, Jaguar Land Rover’s global head of legal, said, according to the British publication.

“This ruling is a clear sign of the law being implemented appropriately to protect consumers and uphold their rights so that they are not confused or misled, whilst protecting business investment in design and innovation,” he added.

The case had dragged on for more than three years.
