Toyota’s cumulative global sales of the Land Cruiser series recently surpassed 10 million units (some 68 years after the original vehicle launched). So, how many has the Japanese firm sold in South Africa in 2019 so far?

Well, Toyota SA says a total of 3 684 Land Cruisers – across the 70 Series, Prado and 200 Series ranges – have been sold locally in the first nine months of the year.

The local arm of the Japanese company bills the Land Cruiser 200 as the “segment leader” in the full-size SUV category, with a 33 percent share and average monthly volume of 93 units. The Land Cruiser Prado, meanwhile, averages around 87 units a month, with Toyota saying it claims the number two position in its segment with a 15 percent share.

The Land Cruiser 70 Series, meanwhile, features on our list of best-selling bakkies each month (it is also offered in SUV guise, wearing the “76″ badge) and is available in both single- and double-cab body styles. The company registered 1 970 units of the Pick-up in the first nine months of 2019.

Of course, handful of FJ Cruiser units are sold in South Africa every month, too.
