The rules of the competition state that all candidates must be “new vehicles on sale now or before year’s end in five or more European markets”.

The voting process comprises two stages. The first results in a shortlist of seven nominees, scheduled to be announced on 25 November 2019. The second round determines the overall winner to be revealed on 2 March 2020, the eve of the Geneva International Motor Show.
