The action-packed V8 SASCAR 2002 Series which ended last month saw three separate winners emerging over the course of the nine round challenge series. –
– The overall honours went to Capetonian Jean-Jacques ‘JJ’ Maree (#10 Agip – Ford) who deservedly took the 2002 SASCAR Championship title. –
– Runner-up fighter-pilot Rob Beaumont (#69 Tyco Trucking International – Chev) proved to be the champion on the circuit, clocking up three race wins, two second and four third placings, giving him a total of 1113 points. –
– Kosie Swanepoel (#3 KZN Oils – Ford) who finished 3rd overall in the championship was crowned ‘The King of the Oval’, having earned the most points for the three oval rounds. –
– The SASCAR series will resume in February 2003, with the drivers of the oval and road circuit designed V8’s looking forward to the birth of their first purpose-designed 5/8 mile oval opening at Gosforth Park in July 2003. –
