Believe it or not, but the latest Acura ARX-06 LMDh which has been teased by the Japanese brand is actually styled by the same designers who pen their more mundane passenger cars. This on the other hand looks outer-worldly in comparison to their family hauling derivatives!
Fresh teaser images officially debuting the Acura ARX-06 LMDh have been shared and despite the endurance challengers copious amounts of camouflage plastered onto its bodywork with the same mesmerising pattern forming the background of the image, we can tell that the overall design with its intersecting surfaces is rather technical.
The newcomer will race in next year’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship which will compete against the likes of Porsche and BMW in the GTP category. To be competitive, we can see that the teaser images boast a front end that includes a large front splitter that channels into a front opening which expectedly aids in downforce as do the massive canards on each flank. This is because the development team has put prototypes and scale models through rigorous aerodynamic design studies and wind tunnel testing before receiving feedback from Honda Performance Development – some of the same brains that have been assisting Red Bull Racing and their win-hungry RB18.
Another hard to believe fact is that the process used for the creation of the exterior of this endurance racer is exactly the same for how new Acura passenger vehicles are created according to Dave Marek, Acura Executive Creative Director. The Acura ARX-06 LMDh does use an Oreca chassis on the other hand as well as some other bespoke manufacturers.
It is unknown exactly what output the motor will be capable of but the racer shown here will feature an Acura-specific internal combustion unit for the 2023 season which will compete against other top tier automotive manufacturers.
