The team chose not to attend the Killarney race meeting following a dispute over modifications to the technical regulations reached an impasse in the lead up to the event.
Following the event an emergency meeting was held. Among the points that were tabled by BMW were homologation procedures, driver discipline, technical transparency regarding dispensations and changes to model variants. A consensus was reached between the manufacturers and the officials of the sport with a clear way forward identified.
BMW Motorsports three Castrol 330i drivers will be looking to get back in the car after a lengthy break.
Etienne van der Linde is the highest ranking Castrol BMW driver in this year’s title fight. “I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel. Due to a number of factors it’s been a difficult season for us but with those issues resolved we can now concentrate on moving forward and challenging for strong results at the front of the field,” comments van der Linde.
Multiple Production Car Champion Anthony Taylor will also be looking to assert his authority on the race track. “It’s been a very long break for us so I’m excited to be back in the car. We’ve had the opportunity to test at Zwartkops, which has been resurfaced since the last time we raced there. The surface may have an effect on overall lap times however we expect that the situation will be the same for everyone,” adds Taylor.
Few people know Zwartkops Raceway better than Clint Weston. “I’m excited to be driving at Zwartkops because it is a circuit I am very familiar with. I’ve never raced the 330i at Zwartkops before but we’ve had opportunity to test there in recent weeks and I feel confident of a strong result come race day,” says Weston
“We’re looking forward to being back in the thick of the action at Zwartkops,” explains Human. “Withdrawing from the Killarney event was a difficult decision for us but one which we feel was necessary. The end result has been favourable and we now move forward with more transparency within the sport. We’ve had a lengthy break and the team has been working hard on testing and development. We hope that our return to the track will mark our return to the front of the field,” concluded Human.
