For some September may sound a long way off till the CPMCC organised Subaru Rally, that takes place on 17 and 18 September. Organisers have already started to put the event together. Subaru SA confirmed that they will once again sponsor this year’s event while farmers and authorities gave permission for their areas to be used to run the stages.
Rally enthusiasts can expect nothing short of excitement, surprises and top class rallying.
Friday 17 September, consists of five stages of which two are gravel and three tar. The tar includes two super special stages. The cars will leave from a designated area in the Cape Town CBD and proceed towards the Swartland area before returning to Killarney at 17:00 where the men will be separated from the boys. The first super special stage will have as many as five cars on the track simultaneously. If this is not enough, super special two will be guaranteed to cause havoc on the senses. Two competitors will take to the track, challenging each other on a mirror image course. This gives the expression, ‘ice in your veins’ a total different meaning. You’ll be frozen – that off-course, is literally. While some may still be gasping for breath and pulses are barely back to normal, we head off to day two with competitors picking up where they left off.
Saturday 18 September consists of six stages of which five are gravel and one tar. The cars will leave from a designated area at 08:00 am to head towards the Swartland Moorreesburg area for the start of stage six progressing through the stages to finish off at Killarney. There will be spectator points from which fans can watch cars fly by.
With as much as 60 expected entries fans will see how the National Rally Championship unfolds. Competition is tight and competitors will spare nothing to put points on the scoreboard. The Subarus took the bit between their teeth and ran away taking the manufacturer’s award at the SASOL Rally. Of the top 10 finishers, Subaru covered five of the positions with Volkswagen, Toyota and Mitsubishi accounting for the other.
Further information for example spectator guides etc. will be released as it comes available. Watch this space.
To whet your rally appetite you can see winners of the Ceres and Automark Rally and seventh overall at SASOL, Stephan van Dyk/Mark Pym along with their House of Subaru, Subaru STi at the Subaru Stand at the Auto Expo taking place on July 10 and 11 in Cape Town at the CTICC.
