Prior to the race there will be opportunities for motorsport fans to meet the crews and technical personnel and to view some very fast and very expensive machinery. The route for the race has also been designed to be user friendly with numerous good spectator points offering easy accessibility from major roads.
Motorsport enthusiasts are invited to pop along to race headquarters at the Meropa Casino and Entertainment World to meet crews and have a look at cars in the Special and Production Vehicle categories. Crews are expected to start arriving on the afternoon of September 6 and race fans will be able to view vehicles from around 4pm.
The race route offers at least eight spectator points on tar roads. These points are all easily accessible to the public.
“The design of the route is such that the majority of the spectator points are on the main Matlala road,” said chief organiser Willie Prinsloo. “The various spectator points offer good viewing, and there are some exciting sections of the route which will provide for some spectacular action.”
The following are recommended spectator points:
SP 1: Travel one kilometre on Percy Fyfe Road after turning off Matlala road.
SP 2: The route travels for approximately three kilometres on the left of Matlala road, just past the Percy Fyfe turn off
SP 3: Competitors cross Matlala road approximately five kilometres past the Percy Fyfe turn off on Matlala road.
SP4: The route meanders on the right of Matlala road for approximately four kilometres.
SP 5: Competitors will pass from right to left under Matlala road.
SP 6: Competitors pass from left to right on a dry riverbed on Matlala road.
SP 7: The route passes under a bridge on the Steilloop / Moloto road.
SP 8: There is an excellent spectator point at New Era on the Steiloop / Moloto road.
There is also excellent spectating on the return route to the designated service point (DSP) and the finish at the Meropa Casino complex. This includes an action packed three kilometre section adjacent to Meropa Casino.
For the more adventurous who want to branch off onto dirt roads, there are multiple spectator points along the route.
“The race is important for championship hopefuls,” said Willie. “Limpopo Province is also easily accessible from Pretoria and Johannesburg, and we are expecting good crowds along the route.
“A number of top crews are also based in Polokwane and this has added interest to the event.”
