Neil Woolridge and Kenny Skjoldhammer currently lie second in the overall standings and top the log in the SP Class. The pair has managed to score points in every round of the championship thus far. With the championship in a relative tug-of-war between Ford and reigning champions Nissan, the Ford team will be pulling out all the stops in the remaining rounds.
“The gloves are definitely off,” explains team manager Woolridge. “The championship is in our sights and though we are currently the under dogs we’re not about to go down without a fight.”
“We’re excited about Sun City. It’s an event that’s been good to us and we’re confident that we have what it takes to be a strong force on the event. The Ford Rangers have been on top form throughout the year and we’re expecting more good things from our trusty stead.”
Rob Gurney and Graeme Stainbank driving the sister SP Ford Racing Ranger will be looking for a strong points finish on the Sun City 400. “We were running strongly on the Lesotho 400 until a fan broke and put a hole in the radiator. It was a bit of a freak accident – these things happen but it was disappointing for us to end the day in such a way,” comments Gurney. “Nevertheless our progress on the event was promising and we hope to build on those advances at the Sun City 400. “
Manfred Schröder and Ward Huxtable, who campaign the Class E Ford Ranger continue to lead the Class E Championship by a sizeable margin in spite of a DNF on the previous outing. The duo continue to head the championship log by 27-point margin.
“Thankfully our strong results earlier in the season meant that our DNF on the Lesotho 400 event had a minimised effect on our championship challenge. But we’re not about to sit back and take it easy. We’ll be challenging as hard as ever this weekend and looking for another class win,” explains Schröder.
The Sun City 400 is a very important event for us as it almost like a home event for Ford. The Ford’s Silverton factory in Pretoria is relatively close to the Pilansburg area and as such we expect to have a lot of Ford supporters spectating on the route. Our goal is to make their trip worth while and celebrate a win at the chequered flag,” concluded Woolrdige.
The team would like to thank Ford, Rockford Fosgate, Time Freight, D.F.Harden Panel Beaters and Sharpline Signs Pietermaritzburg for their continued support.
