Haas F1 team may be experiencing their most abject slump since their 2016 inception into the sport but that hasn’t stopped them from confidently kicking the new era off and become the first team to reveal their 2022 Formula 1 challenger.
This season’s reveals will be as novel to experienced Formula 1 fans as it will be to Drive to Survive followers who are new to the sport. Major regulation changes have mandated significantly different looking cars that should provide more exciting racing and now Haas F1 has become the first team to reveal digital renders of their VF-22.
Expectedly, the renders have portrayed a sleek looking challenger that retains the white, red and blue livery design after Nikita Mazepin and his mogul father brought title sponsor Uralkali onboard last year.
Abysmal performance in the 2021 season was a result of a difficult car to drive for both Mazepin and Mick Schumacher who struggled to control the precarious chassis. It was further exacerbated by the team opting against developing that season’s car to put full focus into the new 2022 regulations.
As expected the team is hopeful that this gamble will play off so that the Haas F1 team can bounce back from last in the constructors’ championship with zero points.
Team principal Gunther Steiner stated: “We all know what the team is capable of, we’ve proved that in the past, and with this new car – born out of a completely new set of regulations and with our new design team in place, I’m confident we can showcase once again that we can compete on weekends.
With more teams expected to reveal their 2022 challengers in the coming weeks, the physical Haas VF-22 will only break cover on the 23rd – 25th of February when teams partake in the first of two pre-season tests. Steiner further stated “It’s exciting to be at the point where we know the VF-22 will be on-track shortly,”
The season officially kicks off in Bahrain on the 20th of March.
