The Autopage Cellular/Du Pont Telecom-supported Topcar off-road racing team will be looking for a strong finish in the Nissan Dealer 400, second round of the Absa Off-Road Championship.
The team’s class D Nissan Hardbody has undergone substantial repairs after ending up on its side in the Nissan Sugarbelt 400, and is in fine fettle again to tackle what promises to be another hard event.
“We are focusing on scoring a finish in the Nissan Dealer 400, especially since we didn’t score any points in the season opener. Given that the class D field is easily the most competitive in the production vehicle category, we’re expecting competition to be fierce,” says Topcar’s Deon Schoeman.
“Conditions will be taxing on the vehicles, since the thick sand and rocky slopes pose a double challenge. The transmissions, in particular, will take a lot of strain, and we will have to adopt a strategy of conserving the Hardbody as much as possible during the early part of the race,” he added.
The Nissan Dealer 400 takes place near the picturesque hamlet of Darling in the Western Cape, and starts with the customary prologue race at 13h00 on Friday 22 April.
