As a fan of all forms of motorcycle racing, I don’t care too much for crashes. They are dangerous and usually involve the rider I’m rooting for.
But, there is one crash that warrants mentioning. I can remember watching the race and being absolutely astounded by events at Assen during the 2002 World Supersport championship. On the final chicane, Christian Kellner’s Yamaha R6 (no. 91) suffered engine failure and spilled oil on the track. He went down as a result, ended up against the padding next to the track and was nearly collected by a bike that went down behind him.
It was sickening and a very worrying time, but, fortunately no rider was seriously hurt. Have a look at 0:12 and 3:15.
