The Cars in Action Festival of Motoring at AA Kyalami on July 17 and 18 will also include something for two wheel fans.
The Historic Motorcycle Group (HMG), which was formed in 2002 and now has 49 members who are committed to preserving classic racing motorcycles such as Manx Norton’s, Ducati’s, Triumphs, BSA’s, Velocettes, Greeves and the like and to bringing them back to tracks around the country, will be staging a demonstration on the Saturday.
The star of the show will no doubt be six times world champion Jim Redman who will be riding a Yamaha TZ750. The 75-year old Redman is celebrating his 50th year in racing and has managed to find time in his world tour schedule, where he is participating in parades at circuits on which he raced in days gone by, to be at AA Kyalami on Saturday, July 17.
Thirty eight entries have been received for the event, which includes a 1937 KTT Velocette 350 ridden by David Linley, a 1968 BSA Rickman Rocket 750 ridden by Errol Cowan, a Greeves, seven Ducati’s, four Norton’s, a Rob North Trident, another four BSA’s, a Triumph Bonneville, three additional Velocettes, eight Hondas, three Suzuki’s, two Yamahas including the Redman machine, a Seeley and a Mondial.
The Cars in Action Festival of Motoring is a weekend for the whole family with numerous other attractions including the Bosal Concours d’Elegance, Concours d’Etat and Tops Only competitions, the Rotax RM-1 Race of Champions and GP Junior Challenge at the Kyalami Kart Circuit, Historic Racing Car Register races for Historic Single Seaters, Volkspares Fine Cars, Lotus Challenge, DK Porsche Challenge and Volkspares HRCR Touring Cars on Saturday, the Vodacom 200 sports car race, CRRASA Classic Regularity Rally and SAHRA Special Stage Rally on Sunday, ride ‘n drive opportunities on the BMW skidpan and 4×4 course, a Playstation arcade, product displays and a kiddies play area.
A one-day admission ticket costs R40,00 per person and a two-day admission ticket costs R70,00 per person.
