The biggest names in South African Karting will compete in this year’s ROTAX MAX Challenge Series, which gets underway at the Bridgestone Zwartkops International Kart raceway this Saturday (May 10). 0 –
– The stunning Bridgestone Zwartkops track plays host to the first round of the inland series on Saturday with the ROTAX MAX Challenge class featuring all the mega-stars: current world title holder, Mark Cronje, Gavin Cronje (former RMC champion), Leeroy Poulter (Mercedes Benz Saloon car driver), Robert Briggs (multiple karting champion), Bjorn Roos (Formula Renault champion) and many more top competitors. –
– Following the outstanding success of the ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE World Finals held at Zwartkops in January, the series has attracted massive support from the top competitors in all three of the 2003 South African Rotax categories. –
– And the big news is that the winners of the SA 2003 categories in Junior ROTAX MAX, ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE and MAX Masters will all participate in the World Finals in Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt in January 2004. –
– The ROTAX MAX Challenge is a unique one- make series where all the competitors use identical 28 bhp sealed 125cc engines, specially developed Bridgestone YGK tyres and a chassis of their choice. The series run in 35 countries and successful competitors from all over the world are invited to participate at an all expenses paid world final each year. South Africans have dominated this championship so far and the question is: can they keep it up? –
– In a completely new development the ROTAX MAX Challenge this year is extended to include the younger age group in the World Final. Drivers from around the world between the ages of 13 and 17 years old participating in the series using the ROTAX JUNIOR MAX engine will have an opportunity of participating in a ROTAX MAX JUNIOR World final! –
– South Africa’s top teenagers will be fighting for a position in the squad and the inland series kicks off at this event. –
– Bridgestone Zwartkops International Kart Raceway was completed just in time to host the January 2003 World Finals. This exiting circuit was built to CIK/FIA international standards and features a fly over and tunnel. This is the only circuit in Africa currently licensed by the CIK/FIA and sets new standards in spectacle and safety. –
– Saturday’s race meeting will be an action packed day with many other classes of karts participating including the incredibly quick 42 bHp 125cc Grand Prix karts which reach speeds in excess of 135 km per hour on this twisty track. –
