Lexus has launched the car which will replace the SC430 (which won the GT500 class of the 2013 Japanese Super GT championship in the hands of Kohei Hirate and defend the title in 2014): the RC F GT500.
The RC F GT500, which is based on the upcoming RC F production coupe, will do battle against such legendary foes as Nissan’s GT-R and the next-generation Honda NSX-GT in the upper class of the series. There are no details yet as to what will power the RC F GT500, but the tight regulations will definitely limit power to 373 kW.
After a successful shakedown recently at the Suzuka International Racing Course, the carbon-fibre-bodied, rear-wheel-drive RC F GT500 will debut on 6 April at the Okayama International Circuit for the 300 km season-opener.
The regulations for this year’s Super GT season are stricter on the teams and individuals involved, as there is a significant effort being made to align the series with Germany’s Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), in an attempt to have exchange races happening as early as the 2017 season.
