Encouraged by their dream debut in the opening round of the 2005 Absa Off Road Championship in KwaZulu Natal in March, the Motorite Racing Team of Evan Hutchison and Trevor Ormerod are confident of another good showing when round two of the championship, the Nissan Dealer 400, takes place in the Darling area of the Western Cape on April 22 and 23.
Driving their class B Motorite Racing BAT Nissan, the Gauteng pair comfortably won their Special Vehicle class in the Nissan Sugarbelt 400 and further impressed the off road community by leading the Special Vehicle category overall at one stage and finishing fifth overall behind four more powerful class A competitors.
Competing in their first national championship off-road race together, with support from Motorite, the largest independent mechanical breakdown insurance and full maintenance plan service provider and administrator in South Africa, the pair gave notice that they are now serious contenders for the class B (limited to 2-litre engines) Special Vehicle title.
“We were very happy with our performance in the Nissan Sugarbelt,” said Hutchison, a former leading quad racer and special vehicle navigator who was competing as a driver for the first time. “We now know we have a very competitive car in our locally-built BAT with its 2-litre Nissan engine, and with the backing of Motorite we believe we can do really well this year.”
