Special Vehicle and Production Vehicle teams that will be contesting the 2004 SA Off Road Car Racing Championship have an opportunity to use the Nampo 400, sponsored by well known agricultural business Senwes, as a shakedown for the Nissan Dealer 400, which gets the national championship underway in March.
Apart from being a National Invitational Race the Nampo 400 (February 20 and 21) will also form part of the Northwest Off Road Challenge Series and a large entry of motor vehicles is expected.
The Nampo 400, which will be run in the Bothaville area will be observed by members of the MSA Off Road Car Racing Commission with the view to the event forming part of the national championship in the future and the Verwes Off Road Club and the other role players will be pulling out all the stops to put on a good show for competitors and spectators.
“The Bothaville farming community has thrown its weight behind the Nampo 400 and made large tracts of land available to the organisers”, said Johan Loxton, Deputy General Manager Commercial Enterprises of Grain SA. “The Verwes Off Road Club has had access to some of the best off road racing terrain available in the area and co-operation between landowners and the organisers has been excellent.”
The event gets underway with a 50km Prologue at 13h00 on Friday, February 20 to determine starting positions for Saturday’s main event, which starts at 11h15 and which will comprise one lap of 130km and two laps of a 60km route that will provide competitors with terrain including desert-like sand sections, plantations, bushveld, dongas and farm tracks.
Spectators will be well catered for with food and refreshments available throughout the day at Nampo Park, which is the home of the world renowned Nampo Harvest Day that attracts in excess of 60 000 visitors over four days annually.
Nampo Park is situated 220km from Johannesburg, 40km from Klerksdorp and 20km from Bothaville and will be used for the start, finish and designated service point with many spectator points within easy reach via tar and good gravel roads.
