Pipped to the post by team-mate Shaun Watson-Smith (MAN/Sasol DualFuel Astra V8) at the opening round of this year’s WesBank Samcar championship at A.A. Kyalami last month, Sasol DualFuel Astra V8 pilot, Johan Fourie, is looking to smooth sailing at the next round of the Vodacom Power Tour at the Killarney Raceway, Cape Town, on Saturday (15 March). –
– “Shaun won the single race 12 lapper fair and square at Kyalami and proved that he will be a very though competitor this year. Although we were still running in the new motor at the Johannesburg race, he took the bull by the horns and made his pole position work effectively to the flag,” said Fourie. –
– “On my home circuit it is vital that I up the game and deliver the goods, keeping in mind that Supervan Racing is a team effort and it is our collective goal to win the WesBank championship for the third year in succession, hopefully for Sasol. Pressure is good, I hope the weather at this time of the year in Cape Town will be as (good),” he added. –
– The Sasol DualFuel-backed Supervan squad could realize a one-two-three at the tight and tricky Killarney circuit should Melvill Priest (Macromed/Sasol DualFuel Ford Mustang) enjoy reliability at the coast. Priest has over the last 12 months developed into a top-class racer in both the WesBank and Vodacom Sports Prototype series, qualifying high on the respective grids. –
– Practice, practice and more practice has been the programme for the “Township Tornado”, Phillip Kekana, who last weekend (9 March) competed in the saloon car category in the regional race day at Aldo Scribante, Port Elizabeth. –
– “The handling characteristics of my new Sasol DualFuel Volkswagen Playa are vastly different from the Production Car I raced last year. This is a brilliant category (Engen Volkswagen Cup), with the top saloon car racers making for of the best four-wheel track racing in South Africa. The broken accelerator cable and flat tyre in the respective races at Kyalami are all part of the learning curve. This weekend I need to crack the top ten and trust that the time spent in the car at the PE races will stand me in good stead this weekend,” said Kekana. –
– Also in action on Saturday are the Sasol DualFuel-backed privateers in the S.A. Production Car championship – Ford Racing drivers, Steve Wyndham, Clinton Weston and Miquelle Pasqualli (the latter two in new Ford Ikons) and Craig Nicholson in his Class C Sabat Honda Ballade. –
