Sasol dualfuel Omega driver, Johan Fourie, successfully performed at his and his charger’s peak at the Aldo Scribante Vodacom Power Tour race meeting on Saturday, placing the all-blue Chev firmly on pole and winning both races to close the gap to the championship leader to 7 points with the final outing ahead at A.A. Kyalami on 22 November. –
– Fourie was a full second clear of Grant van Schalkwyk (Hi Q Mustang) in the Friday qualifying session and held off the points leader in the two nail-biting 8 and 15 lap races. –
– Larry Wilford (Fuchs Titan Mustang), second overall going into the Port Elizabeth race, had to settle for 3rd both times out. –
– Van Schalkwyk heads the standings on 248 points, the Sasol driver has 241 and is now 7 clear of Wilford. So, it is still a 3-way fight for the 2003 honours at the Midrand circuit later this month. –
– Fourie knows that even if he wins both races there, and the Hi Q driver finishes 2nd again, the latter will take the championship by 1 point, so the tussle and tension is going to be intense. –
– Fellow Sasol Steam Team member, Phillip Kekana (Sasol dualfuelä Polo) enjoyed mixed fortunes in the Engen Volkswagen Cup events, but unlike most of the competitors, came away without the bodywork scars in the “stock car” wars that prevailed. –
– In race one Kekana literally “pushed the metal to the floor” on lap 3, the accelorater braking and forcing retirement. –
– The later 15 lapper ended up being an 8 lap plus a 7-lap race after a multiple car crash in the first stint. Kekana maintained composure and concentration to finish 13th, from 21st on the grid. The race wins went to Engen drivers, Michael Stephen and Tshops Sipuka. –
– Fanie de Bruin (Murray and Roberts Foundry Ikon) was the best of the Sasol dualfuelä supported Ford Racing squad in Production Cars. The highly talented youngster took a class D first and second on the day. –
– In Class C, Craig Nicholson (SABAT Honda) came home with 3rd in race 2. His Honda’s steering rack broke in the first event. –
– Much magnificent dicing in the Formula Ford series saw double race winner, Armani Jamrozinski (Diesel Clothing Van Diemen) receive the Sasol SAGMJ Top Gun of the Day award. –

– With the Champions still to be decided in four of the six national championship categories, there is every incentive to attend the final round of the year at A.A. Kyalami on 22 November. –
