At the Vodacom Power Tour meeting at Zwartkops, Fourie was untouchable in his Sasol DualFuel Omega V8, taking pole position and winning both the 8 and 15-lap WesBank events, to close the gap to championship leader, Larry Wilford (Fuchs Titan Mustang), to just 13 points, with 4 events remaining this year.
Wilford finished 3rd on both occasions, with Grant van Schalkwyk (HiQ Mustang), now 1 point behind Wilford, finishing a distant 2nd to the Sasol racer on the day.
Supervan Racing teammate, Melvill Priest (Mad Buzz/Sasol DualFuel Omega), took 5th in race one, but retired after a big spin in the later event. In his Vodacom Sports Prototype campaign he took an easy victory in the first event. Sadly, the 24Seven Nissan’s motor lost power and he retired from the 2nd race.
In Rwanda, Rueda and ARC Co-driver, Martin Botha, took their Sasol DualFuel-supported 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer EvoV1 to a comfortable two minutes and fifty seconds win, despite incurring two punctures over the “open road” rally. They now hold a commanding lead in the ARC after winning the opening three rounds as well, and could wrap up the championship at the Pearl of Africa rally next month.
The Sasol DualFuel Raceday saw Phillip Kekana finish both Engen Volkswagen Cup races, albeit out of the points. From 21st on the grid, he made up a few positions in the 8-lap race only to be “punted off” at the final turn with two laps to go. In race two, with the tyres going off, the Sasol “Township Tornado” moved up and down the order to take 20th.
Also racing with support from Sasol, Shaun Watson-Smith (Barnett Auto Spares Polo), had an impressive day, taking 5th and 8th in the highly competitive one-make category.
Angus Thompson (Geronga/Sasol DualFuel Golf) had the best outing of his season in Class D of the S.A. Production Cars to claim the Sasol SAGMJ “Top Gun” of the day award. The Citizen Motoring Editor took the flag first in both races, but was docked two seconds in race one to officially finish behind another Sasol DualFuel driver, Miguel Pasqualli (Ford Ikon).
In Class C, Craig Nicholson (Sabat/Sasol Honda) took the final step of the podium in both races.
Watch highlights of the Sasol DualFuel Raceday on Vodacom on Track on Supersport CSN/SS2 from 18h00 onwards over the next four Thursday evenings.
