Spectators on the Sun City 400, round six of the SA Off Road Championship…presented by Absa, will be well catered for on the weekend of September 26 and 27.
The event organisers, Off Road South Africa, have laid out a compact yet extremely demanding 130km route in the Pilanesberg area, which competitors will be required to complete three times.
Spectators will have ample opportunity to view the action from eight clearly identified and conveniently located vantage points along the route and the furthest they will have to travel from the start at the Sun City Sports Complex to the most outlying of the spectator points will be 25km.
“We have gone out of our way to provide spectators with some superb vantage points all within close proximity to Sun City,” said Race Coordinator, Adri Roets. Two of the spectator points are on a well maintained gravel road while the balance are situated on tarred routes.”
“A further example of the compact nature of the Sun City 400 route is the fact that anyone following the leaders from Sun City back to Sun City only has to travel 48km,” added Roets. “All we ask is that spectators and service crews exercise caution, especially when passing through villages where there are pedestrians and livestock and when driving on the gravel road, which is only 15km long but expected to be very dusty.”
The action, which predictably will be fast and furious, gets underway with a 40km Prologue on Friday, September 26 at 13:00 to determine starting positions for the main event, which starts at 08:00 on Saturday, September 27. The first vehicle is expected at the finish at around 13:00.
