The Sun City 400, round four of the Absa Off Road Championship that will take place in the Pilanesberg area on July 23 and 24 promises to be even more challenging than in previous years.
Race organisers, Off Road South Africa (ORSA) completed the route survey for this popular event over the weekend and have made significant changes to the already compact route aimed at providing competitors with a real test of endurance and making it even easier for spectators to follow the action.
“The entire route is laid out in an area of 400 square kilometres that is bounded by four major roads, which makes access to numerous exciting vantage points easy for spectators,” said Piet van Rensburg from ORSA. “It will not be a walk in the park for competitors who can expect to work hard throughout the event.”
“New sections of the Sun City 400 route include rocky outcrops, overgrown bushveld and the odd river crossing, which will be made more challenging if we have a little rain before the event.”
Race headquarters, the pits, the start and the finish will be located at the Sun City Sports and Social Club where there is a full service restaurant and bar, fast outlets and ablution facilities.
The 40-kilometre Prologue to determine starting positions for the main event starts at 13h00 on Friday, July 23 and the main event, which will consist of three laps of a 140-kilometre loop starts at 08h00 on Saturday, July 24.
