Sun International, which has a long history of involvement in off road racing, has announced that it will again sponsor the Sun City 400, round four of the Absa Off Road Championship, which will be based at the world-renowned Pilanesberg resort from July 23 to 24.
“Sun City and Sun International are very proud to once again sponsor the Sun City 400 organised by Off Road South Africa (ORSA), which promises to be the most spectator friendly on the championship calendar,” said Brett Hoppe from Sun International. “Adri Roets, who will be competing in Class B this year, and his organising team have laid out a route that will appeal to competitors as well as to the media and the thousands of spectators we are predicting will follow the event.”
“Atang Makgekgenene and Buks Carolin’s recent victory on the Toyota 1000 Desert Race could well result in significant numbers of Botswana based spectators making the trip to the Pilanesberg to see their heroes in action and we welcome that.”
The organisers are hard at work plotting a route that will feature new terrain to make it interesting for everyone.
The event signals the midway point in the championship and it will be make or break time for many Production and Special Vehicle Category crews who have yet to get their championship campaigns properly underway.
The Sun City 400 gets underway at 13h00 on Friday, July 23 with a 40km Prologue followed by the main event on Saturday, which will consist of three laps of a 140 kilometre route including river crossings, dongas and typical North West Province bush that starts at the Sun City Recreation Club at 08h00. The first car is expected at the finish at 14h30.
